    Indiana's unemployment rate dips

INDIANAPOLIS -Indiana's unemployment rate has continued its recent drop as it fell slightly to 8.2 percent for March. The state Department of Workforce Development said Friday that the jobless rate for March dropped from February's 8.4 percent. Indiana's jobless figure has been improving since its recent peak of 9.3 percent last August.

While about 275,000 Indiana residents were looking for work last month, state workforce development commissioner Mark Everson says he's encouraged that fewer people are unemployed at a time when more people are joining the labor force. Indiana's March rate matches the national unemployment rate is also the lowest level the state has seen since the end of 2008.

Urban expert lauds Indianapolis for progress

Indianapolis - If Indianapolis' business leaders needed a pep talk to shake them from their recessionary funks, they got it Tuesday from an urban affairs expert who says the city is faring better than several others. Indianapolis enjoyed population growth of 65,000 residents over the past decade, top among 11 Midwestern cities. And many of those cities even experienced population declines, he said. Indianapolis also ranked first in total job growth. From 2001 to 2009, the city experienced net job growth of 17,000, a particularly striking statistic considering the 10 other cities all experienced job losses.

Indianapolis is a thriving success story and model for revitalization. Since 2000, more than 3,200 units have been built. Downtown Indianapolis offers a mix of historic neighborhoods, luxury condominiums, lofts and apartments. No matter where you are in Indianapolis, you're less than 20 minutes away from whatever your heart desires.

Home to an exciting downtown and six unique and vibrant cultural districts, Indianapolis boasts a strong community and varied industries.
